This Asian restaurant’s huge menu includes customizable options that are perfect for picky eaters.
Since its grand opening in September 2021, Super Red Bowl has been pleasing diners with its unique take on classic Asian cuisine and its kind, hard-working staff. Its business model brings something new to the table, effectively combining a fast-casual restaurant’s choose-your-own ingredients style with the conventional sit-down dining experience. This family-friendly restaurant, located in the Pierpont Landings Plaza near Uptown Cheapskate and Apple Annie’s, has a sizable menu full of tasty dishes—and plenty of sweet stuff, too. We spoke with the restaurant’s owner and general manager, May Li, to learn more.
Q: How did Super Red Bowl get started?
May Li: My son’s picky eating is what inspired me to open a restaurant with a wide variety of selections. With plenty of dishes to choose from, there’s something for everyone.
Q: Has the COVID-19 pandemic impacted your business?
ML: It was difficult to open a restaurant during a pandemic. We really struggled to find workers at first. But we have adapted by taking all of the necessary measures to keep our customers safe.
Q: What makes Super Red Bowl different from other Asian restaurants in Morgantown?
ML: One thing that sets us apart is our Custom Bowl option—it’s available for either Poke Bowls or Hibachi Bowls. Customers first choose from a selection of rice and noodles and then from a large display of vegetables, proteins, and sauces. Then, we cook those ingredients fresh and serve it all in a big red bowl. With the Custom Bowl, you can get everything you want and nothing you don’t. My son was the inspiration for this idea as well.
Q: What should we eat first?
ML: The Custom Bowl is great for first-timers, but I would also recommend our Super Signature Bowl, our Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, and our Spicy Thai Shrimp Bowl, as these are some of my personal favorites and also some of our most popular dishes. And don’t forget dessert! We have a variety of pies, ice cream, and fried desserts to choose from.
Q: Anything else you want to share about Super Red Bowl?
ML: We recently started serving boba tea. There are five different flavors: classic milk, Thai, taro, mango, and strawberry. We also offer strawberry jelly, mango jelly, and rainbow jelly as additional tea flavoring options.
