The Spark! Imagination and Science Center has opened up once again, bringing new play and learning to Morgantown kids.

Over a year after closing its doors due to the pandemic, Spark! Imagination and Science Center at the Mountaineer Mall is once again open for play. “We have a lot of fun exploring and learning and using our imaginations,” says executive director Julie Bryan. That’s exactly what families will do, with the center’s new features that are sure to excite kids of all ages.
With over 3,000 square feet of arts- and science-based exhibits, Spark! facilitates free exploration and play, allowing kids to use the exhibits the way they want to. The newest exhibit—Sun, Earth, Universe—does so through space exploration, while fan-favorite Engineer It! takes a problem-solving approach.
New events and programs keep things fresh and exciting, making each trip a unique one for your child. The annual Inspire Your Heart with Art Day returns January 29 with a metal collage project inspired by artist Gustav Klimt, an event included in the regular admission ticket. While it may sound advanced, the metal foil makes it perfect for kids of any age to feel like artists.
If you have a child 4 years old or younger, look out for Early Explorers, a science program for pre-preschool kiddos. “You’re never too young to start learning and exploring,” says Bryan. It’s science designed for kids their age, made to get them excited about learning and exploring. They’ll use tools, make observations and predictions, and learn in a hands-on way.
Spark! is also making sure that it’s not just the kids who get to have all the fun. Themed adult nights are bringing a whole new demographic to the center—like the upcoming Harry Potter Adult Makers Program, where participants will make light-up wands and other magical items. Sounds like a perfect date night for any fan of the bespectacled wizard—just be sure to sign up before February 2.

“If you don’t think you have the science knowledge but want to share that experience with your kids, we take the stress out of it,” Bryan says. And that means at home, too. Pop by anytime Spark! is open to purchase an at-home science kit that includes all the materials and instructions for an evening of exploration and fun.
New events will continue to make their way to the science center’s schedule, so keep an eye on its website and social media to stay up-to-date.
