Last chance to check out the January specials at Screech Owl Brewing.
If you’ve never been to Screech Owl Brewing and Spent Grain Cafe in the heart of Preston County, do yourself a favor and make the trip. If you have been, this is a great time to go back. Here are three good reasons to make the drive this weekend.
- Their newest beer, Rough Cut Porter. It’s richly dark with a light brown head and an ABV of 5.7%—a bit stronger than a session beer—with lots of malty coffee, caramel, and chocolate flavors, a perfect pour for this time of year. Not a porter drinker? No worries—they’ve got lots of other fresh house brews on tap, and in cans, too. Stick an empty growler in the car before you leave, because there’s a good chance you’re going to want to take some home with you.
- This month’s specials. The Yellowstone is a shaved steak sandwich with a perfect stack of fixin’s: smoked gouda and Cooper American cheese, sautéed mushrooms and onions, and Screech Owl’s house mayo sauce, all on a signature house-baked spent grain bun.
- The cheery, heart-warming atmosphere. Roger and Crista Johnson came to brewing and hospitality later in life, but it’s obvious the moment you walk in the door that they’re naturals at it. When you spend a little time at the operation they’ve built over the past several years—which employs both family members and community residents in an irrepressibly good-humored work environment—you come away feeling better about your fellow humans.
Screech Owl Brewing is a 45-minute drive from Morgantown through some of the prettiest parts of Preston County—a great weekend getaway. Check Facebook to confirm this weekend’s hours before you go.
