These made-in-Morgantown belts combine comfort and style.
Searching for the perfect gift for your outdoor-loving dad this Father’s Day? Lizard Tail belts offer a cozy and functional alternative to leather belts, making it easier to work hard while still looking good.
Lizard Tail co-owner and founder Ephraim Pittore describes the company’s signature belt design as a unique pants fastener made out of 100% nylon cord that is typically used for climbing.
Pittore and his business partner, Justin Chambers, launched the business in 2019 based on a concept Chambers invented during his time completing his Ph.D. at WVU. “He took a lot of these crazy advanced classes. He was sitting all the time, and his traditional leather belt just wasn’t doing it for him,” Pittore says. A roommate loaned him a comfortable hiking belt made of very thin webbing, but he eventually wanted it back. “So, Justin had some rope in his garage, and he fashioned what we would call the first Lizard Tail belt.”
The two came together to create a specialized buckle with a “ring of teeth” that slides the rope through an eyelet. “It goes through easy, but when you pull it back, it pulls tight, almost like magic,” Pittore says. “We like to say that it has a not-even-there kind of feel.”
Lizard Tail offers two types of belts: solo and max. Solo belts have a sleek, minimalist style, while max belts are larger, according to Pittore. Typical belt customers are men aged 20 to 60 who are outdoor enthusiasts and work long hours. “Our belts have really proven to be just a reliable product. Not too much fuss, adjusting it and moving it around, and it gives you a really unique look. So, for fathers who love the outdoors, it’s a unique product that’s unlike anything else you can get,” he said.
The company also sells a range of accessories, including camera straps, bag straps, lanyards, wristlets, and key chains.
Lizard Tail offers quick and international shipping, and all products are produced in Morgantown. For more information and to order, visit the website.
