Visit Scotts Run Resonance Project’s next Repair Café on February 21.

Since 2024, the Scotts Run Resonance Project has been bringing the community together through its Repair Café, where fixing things and teaching visitors are the staff’s pleasure. Held quarterly, the event gives attendees the opportunity to have their things repaired free of charge while enjoying free food, lessons, and live entertainment.
At the event, tables are equipped with volunteers ready to help visitors restore the items they bring in. Each event features 10 to 15 volunteers. Some tables focus on specialized skills, like sewing or repairing lamps, while others host jacks-of-all-trades prepared to tackle whatever comes in the door. If your project is unusual, don’t worry—someone will have a solution. “I encourage people to bring stuff, and we’ll just see who can fix it,” says Resonance Project Director D.J. Cassell.
A favorite story Cassell shares involves a woman who brought in a cast iron pot she found in the creekbed by her childhood home. An internet search revealed that the piece was worth $1,500, and as a self-described “cast iron nerd,” Cassell was impressed.

The event usually brings in 50 to 100 people who are eager to learn and socialize. Participants range in age from high school and college students to retirees.
And although live entertainment and food aren’t the focus of the event, many volunteers and attendees have taken to the stage or come just to dine among friends. Local artists have also shared their music, performing live or through CD.
The next Repair Café is scheduled for February 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Specialized repairs will include jewelry, clothing, photos, computers, and cast iron restoration. Stop by to have your items repaired, or to just learn and network—and maybe you’ll be a volunteer at the next quarterly Repair Café.
