Don’t strike out this spring—register for the Mountaineer Adult Kickball League’s upcoming season now.

When Tessa Kimerer first began exploring sporting clubs in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina between 2018 and 2022—alongside her husband, Kyle Kimerer—as a way to build connections during his naval deployments, she didn’t know it would one day lead to a league of her own. Now, she is both the founder and a member of the Mountaineer Adult Kickball League, competing every Sunday with her team, New Kicks on the Block.
The MAKL, started in summer 2022, plays fall and spring seasons every year. It’s now entering its eighth season, with more than 20 teams and 350 players so far.
Anyone can join the league, as the teams are co-ed and composed of players from all walks of life. Austin Thomas, a pitcher and first baseman for the team Life’s a Pitch and an area manager for AT&T, was first signed up by his wife and now describes the league as something he looks forward to every weekend. Thomas says, “there’s just something fun about watching adults relive their childhood through the sport of kickball.”
Jaxson Peters is primarily an infield player and is a senior software engineer who is also working on a documentary about haunted locations across America. He enjoys getting to simply “hang out as a league” and has noticed both physical and mental benefits from being part of a team. Peters also likes the chance to meet new people.
Kickball, unlike many other sports, offers a fun and athletic experience no matter your skill level and is great for people interested in getting out and being part of a team. You can join as a group or a free agent, so there are no worries if you don’t have a full team.
The spring 2026 season begins March 15 and extends to a final tournament on May 17. Teams compete every Sunday at White Park, beginning at noon. The $40 registration opens to all 18-plus community members on February 1, so don’t miss your chance to get in on the fun and find some new friendly rivals.
