Visit this lush annual market in Preston County on November 29 for fragrant greenery and decorating inspiration.

Looking for something to do the day after Thanksgiving? Enjoy a scenic drive down a winding road to the area’s most charming nursery, greenhouse, cafe, and gift shop: Modern Homestead. Located in Reedsville, less than half an hour south of Morgantown, Modern Homestead will hold its annual Christmas Market on Friday, November 29, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fresh and fragrant holiday decor will be for sale and in abundance throughout the cafe and the greenhouse. Mixed evergreen wreaths and swags—a swag is a handful of greenery that tapers toward the bottom and is hung vertically—as well as garlands and magnolia bundles are just a few of the yuletide trimmings for your home, says co-owner Trellis Smith.
Give the gardeners in your life the gift of nature with one of Modern Homestead’s winter-blooming bulbs or choose from the many stocking stuffers in the gift shop. Pause and enjoy a treat from the espresso bar and homemade pastry selection in Modern Homestead’s Trellis Cafe. You can also get your holiday tree—choose from the nursery’s large selection of fresh-cut Fraser firs.
If you can’t make it on Black Friday, no worries—Modern Homestead will participate in Small Business Saturday the following day, November 30, and will host one of its much-lauded Cozy Dinners that evening at 6 p.m.—by reservation only. “Gather with friends and family around the table for a good meal and enjoy one another,” says Smith.
