Bear Wood Company helps you take a piece of West Virginia wherever you may roam.

When Bear Wood Company got started back at the tail end of 2014, the whole setup consisted of a small woodshop and showroom in Hurricane, West Virginia. Now, seven years and another location later, its third showroom opened its doors here in Morgantown in November.
As many businesses do, Bear Wood started with an idea: giving people something that reminds them of West Virginia. “People move away or are new to the area and want something that means something to them,” says Morgantown store manager Noah Miller. And what better piece of Almost Heaven than reclaimed wood from barns or houses local to our very state?
Miller worked at the woodshop in Hurricane before he moved up here to manage the new location. The store found its home at what used to be the old Morgan Theatre on High Street, nestled among other small businesses. “When we first opened, most of our customers were people who had been following us for a while,” Miller says. Downtown residents went in to welcome the new shop to the block, too. “It spread through a lot of word of mouth that we’re here, and we started seeing a lot of new people.”
Each Bear Wood Company showroom is filled to the brim with unique pieces of reclaimed wood turned into something beautiful, and the Morgantown store is no different. Rustic state shapes have been created from wood that knows where it came from—it says so on the back. Bourbon barrel lids, a fan favorite, are displayed and ready for you to customize for your home or business. Smaller pieces like ornaments and coasters are waiting to be gifted to friends and family or shared as wedding favors.
Miller thinks his favorite item in the store has to be the picture frames. “I really like how they turn out,” he says. “Using reclaimed woods, some of them look brand new while others look a little older with more character. It’s different each time.”
