South Park Service Center’s hours are listed on their sign—right below their latest pun.

You’ve heard the phrase “service with a smile,” but how about “service with a sense of humor”? That’s what South Park Service Center brings to Morgantown with the quips posted on its sign. Cross the Pleasant Street Bridge into South Park—you can’t miss it.
The sign heralded fall a few years ago with the joyful announcement, “They’re back! Pumpkin spice brake pads!” It offered “Free toilet paper with oil change” in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, a subtle recognition that laughter, like paper products, was scarce at the time.
South Park Service Center is an automobile repair shop with an enviably visible location and a steady stream of customers. In a typical week, it services 100 to 150 vehicles, says Manager Kevin Freeman. Plenty of interesting ones have rolled in over the years. “I’ve seen some pretty cool lifted trucks and Jeeps in here. There was also a 1950s Pontiac Chieftain and a 1970s GTO we worked on, which were probably some of the neatest cars we’ve had in the shop.”
The shop’s priority is keeping its customers on the road. To help you steer clear of easily avoidable breakdowns, Freeman offers some quick advice: “Check your fluids, check your tires, and pay attention to sounds,” he says. “You know your car best, so if you hear it making a sound you’ve never heard it make before, you should probably check it out—or feel free to swing by, and we can check it out for you.”
And, by the way, who comes up with the witty one-liners? Freeman says it’s a group effort. “All of the technicians and I help come up with ideas.” They’ll be updating the sign soon, he says, so be sure to check it out next time you’re headed that way.
