Read the best-selling novel Hang the Moon, then join a conversation with author Jeannette Walls on March 5.

Whether you’re a seasoned book club participant or following up on a resolution to read more in 2026, the WV Living Book Club has a treat for you: The club’s spring read is the best-selling historical novel Hang the Moon by West Virginia native author Jeannette Walls. You may be familiar with her past work as a journalist with MSNBC.com, her 2005 memoir The Glass Castle, or her novels Half Broke Horses and The Silver Star.
Hang the Moon takes us back to Prohibition-era Virginia. Sallie Kincaid has returned home nearly a decade after an accident that involved her stepbrother got her shipped off to her aunt’s house. She is soon twisted up in old family secrets and new scandals as she finds a place in the fast-paced world of bootlegging.
Walls will join the March 5, 2026, meeting at The F.A.R.M. in Granville via Zoom to discuss the book, answer reader questions, and share insights into her characters and writing process.
Expect to add even more top-notch reads to your list this year! The WV Living Book Club’s summer meeting focuses on West Virginians’ Experiences in Civil Rights: How We Have Been Connected All Along. Fall brings a haunting—and Pulitzer Prize–winning—tale from Jayne Anne Phillips: Night Watch. Ann Pancake rounds out the 2026 season with her beautiful 2007 novel Strange as This Weather Has Been.
Visit the WV Living Book Club website to register to attend book club meetings in person or online. You can also buy the books there.
See you in Granville!
