Rollie Pollie’s rolls into a permanent location in Star City.

The former food truck Rollie Pollie Egg Roll Factory has found a permanent home in Star City. There, it serves up its signature comfort food in crispy wrappers along with an expanded menu and a space where folks in the community can connect.
Seven years ago, Anthony Pierce and his wife, Megan, had no idea what was in store. The duo were operating sober living houses in Pennsylvania for individuals in recovery when COVID-19 hit. They tried to make the best of a bad situation for their 40 residents, many of whom had lost their jobs due to the pandemic. “That’s not a good situation for people in recovery,” Pierce says, noting he is nine years sober himself. He drew inspiration from his previous experience as a chef and offered cookouts and movie nights for the residents. “At one point, we ended up with egg roll wrappers in bulk—and that’s how we found out life is better in an egg roll.”

With some savings and the help of their pastor, the Pierces opened a small food trailer. A year later, they bought the food truck that would become known as Rollie Pollie’s, named for their “rollie pollie” bulldog, Dozer. Although they had a rocky start, they really hit their stride at the Ruby Summer Concert Series. They also set up at fairs, festivals, weddings, and graduations. There was a bit of a learning curve for the menu, Pierce says—not everyone understood that egg rolls could contain ingredients aside from cabbage. But once the crowd grasped the concept, the unique egg rolls became a fan favorite, earning the WV Living magazine Best of West Virginia competition’s Best Food Truck in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
In April 2026, the couple launched their physical location in Star City, now called Rollie Pollie’s Takeout and Catering. “We decided it was time to settle down in a stationary location and expand the menu,” Pierce says. The new spot has window service, comfortable outdoor seating, and plenty of shade. While their kitchen isn’t much larger than the food truck, the space affords them the chance to cook a wider variety of foods, from burgers and sandwiches to salads and vegan options. “Egg rolls will always be a deep part of who we are,” he says, noting the Crack Chicken Eggroll and the Mountaineer Mac Eggroll as two customer favorites. Aside from egg rolls, another best-seller is the cheesesteak, served with thin-sliced, melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin.
“Food is an immediately appreciated art form,” Pierce says. “When you give somebody something good to eat, you can see it on their face. It’s comforting.” People work so hard, he says, and they want to give people something to look forward to. “We’re excited to share a piece of who we are with our customers in our permanent location. Everything we do, we do with love.”
