Camp Muffly Park’s swimming pool is back and better than ever.
With gas prices hovering near $5 a gallon, many folks are searching for fun things to do here in Morgantown. Well, Camp Muffly Park has some good news: Its newly renovated pool is now open to the public.
“There was an old pool here before,” says Camp Muffly Park’s superintendent, Amy Hettick. “I believe it was built in the ’60s, and it definitely needed some major updating.” The new facility has a welcoming, modern appearance and is equipped with all the essentials: a brand new shower house, a concession stand, a grassy area where you can lay out your towel, and, of course, lifeguards on duty. The pool ranges from 2 to 7 feet in depth.
You can swim from noon to 5 p.m. at Camp Muffly any day this summer. “It’ll be open seven days a week until the week before school goes back into session,” says Hettick. After the kids are back in school, the pool will be open on the weekends through Labor Day. For those who plan to spend a lot of time in the water this summer, season passes are available on the Monongalia County Parks and Recreation Department website.
If you’d like to have the swimming pool all to yourself, you can rent it from 6 to 8 p.m. and invite as many guests as the pool can hold—up to 150. “We also have a dining hall that can be rented for large events like wedding receptions or corporate dinners,” Hettick says. And you can enjoy plenty of other activities at Camp Muffly besides swimming. “We do have a playground, a ball field, a couple of sand volleyball courts, walking trails, and some horseshoe pits.”
So, just take a short trip down 4-H Camp Road if you and your family are looking for some affordable outdoor fun this summer. Camp Muffly Park is only a 15-minute drive from the center of town, and daily admission is just $4 for adults—that’s less than a gallon of gas.
