What you need to know to vote in the 2026 primary election.

The 2026 primary election is coming up. It’s our chance to express our support for people and issues we believe in and choose the candidates for the November general midterm election. Here’s what you need to know.
- You can register to vote, or update your address or party affiliation, through April 21 on the West Virginia Secretary of State’s website or in person at the Monongalia County Clerk’s office, 243 High Street in downtown Morgantown.
- To see a list of candidates, you can find your sample ballot here if you know your precinct number—scroll way down—or you can generate a sample ballot for the address you’re registered at here.
- Early voting is April 29 through May 9 except Sundays, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Vote at the Mountaineer Mall, 5000 Green Bag Road, or at Mason–Dixon Historical Park, 79 Buckeye Road in Core. You will need a photo ID—read the requirements here.
- If you prefer to vote on Election Day proper, it’s Tuesday, May 12, and you can vote 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m. at your precinct location. Again, present a photo ID.
- To get an absentee ballot—allowed if you will be out of town during the entire early voting period and Election Day, or if you are confined to your home—you can apply using this form through May 6. Note that, although you may submit the form via email, it must have a live, not digital, signature. Absentee ballots must be postmarked by May 12 to be counted.
