Father’s Day is this weekend. Great gift ideas below.
Your dad would probably appreciate making this year’s Father’s Day celebration a sock-free zone. No worries; we’ve got you covered with some unique local ideas for the occasion.
It’s common knowledge that West Virginia is the birthplace of Mother’s Day, but did you know the Mountain State created Father’s Day, too? In 1908, Ms. Charles Clayton petitioned her pastor at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church in Fairmont to dedicate a service to fathers everywhere. She was inspired by her love for her own father, the Rev. Fletcher Golden. That service was considered the first official celebration of dear old Dad, caught on nationwide, and is commemorated each summer. To be part of this year’s festivities, head to Palatine Park in Fairmont June 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. You can also find more information here.
If your dad is a meat eater, plan to spend some quality time together at Stonewall Resort State Park in Roanoke for the West Virginia State Championship Almost Heaven BBQ Bash happening June 17–18. Learn more here.
Stephanie Swaim, owner of Hoot and Howl, has plenty of great gift ideas this year in her store. You can also check out her curated collection of things that Dad is sure to love online, too.
Maybe your dad could use a bit of pampering this year. Look no further than Tuscan Sun Spa & Salon. With the purchase of a $100 gift card now through Father’s Day, you’ll score a free haircut for him, too!
If your dad likes big butts, arrange to pick up a Mountain Man WV Loving Local Box featuring great West Virginia–made products like ramp salt, Appalachian Huntsman seasoning, and one very special apron. Order yours here or get free local pick up by ordering here.
And if he just really loves socks, you really can’t go wrong heading to Daniel’s of Morgantown for the best pair your money can buy.
