Looking for ways to celebrate everyone’s favorite leprechaun-approved holiday? Try these.

It’s St. Patrick’s Day, the one day each year when we all don green and celebrate Irish culture. It’s actually a Catholic feast day honoring the life of St. Patrick and observed by devout churchgoers since the 900s. Modern-day celebrations add inspiration from Celtic folktales—enter the leprechaun—and look quite different from those early days. Here are a few green beer-soaked, corned beef-filled, and shamrockin’ fun ways to celebrate the day in Morgantown.
☘ Snag some WVU-themed green gear at either location of The Book Exchange or at The Mountaineer Fanstore on High Street.
☘ Grab St. Patty’s Day–inspired sweets at Terra Cafe or Peace, Love, and Little Donuts.
☘ Indulge in a traditional Irish feast complete with corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, and Guinness cake for dessert at the Preston County Inn.
☘ Tap to the beat of The Greens, Autumn Equinox, and Stewed Mulligan at 123 Pleasant Street or The Staggering Cardoons at Gibbie’s Pub & Eatery.
☘ If you don’t already have reservations for the March 17 Luck of the Irish dinner at Appalachian Mercantile General Store & Cafe in Granville, no worries—the Irish Ale, Cheddar, and Potato Soup and Classic Cottage Pie are on special all week.
☘ Head south to Bridgeport, home of Meagher’s Irish Pub, for authentic Irish food and a tall pint.
☘ Make plans to head to Ireland—the one in West Virginia—this weekend for the annual Irish Spring Festival topped off with a little Irish road bowling.
