A new event center at the West Virginia Botanic Garden offers a different option for Morgantown weddings.

Since the early 2000s, the West Virginia Botanic Garden at Tibbs Run Reserve has served as a location for education and well-being through the beauty of nature. The 85-acre site is constantly flourishing with new initiatives. Its most recent project, the Hazel Ruby McQuain Event Center, is on the path to completion come mid-summer.
West Virginia’s flagship botanic garden is no stranger to hosting weddings of all sizes. The contemporary architecture and design of the event center will create the perfect place for affianced couples looking for a modern space to host their nuptials, and for other events, too. Some shining features? A large deck holds the potential for outdoor cocktail seating and mingling during a reception. Indoor and outdoor fireplaces will keep guests toasty on the coolest of evenings.
Serving as a new source of income for the WVBG, the event center will support future expansions. “We’re working on creating more garden spaces and expanding the Garden through educational events and projects. We need a more sustainable revenue to do that,” says WVBG Executive Director Philip Smith.
However, this nonprofit botanic garden still relies on the support of the community that it serves, too. “The Morgantown community has been so helpful,” says Smith. “They have really come out to support us and the garden, making it possible.”
Interested in showing your support? Here are a few ways you can do so:
- Show(er) your support with the building shower. Purchase items needed in the center, ranging from flatware to tables and chairs.
- Make a donation to the center. Donors of $500 will receive their name engraved on one of the pavers making up the plaza at the building’s entrance. $3,000 donations will place the donor’s name on the Legacy Logo Display, a stunning cherrywood sculpture that will hang inside the space.
- Purchase a membership. Memberships not only provide funds for the Garden, but give you and your family perks such as free admission and/or discounts at gardens around the country and 10% off WVBG merchandise.
