Rob Houston
voted best personal trainer in Morgantown in 2021

As a lifelong athlete, Rob Houston has always been interested in fitness. He earned a master’s in public health at WVU and intended to go into corporate wellness, but a job as a personal trainer at Planet Fitness unexpectedly turned into a passion. When Orangetheory Fitness opened in January, Houston was among the first coaches it trained. The Orangetheory approach—to key the workout to the heart rate, so each person is both challenged and successful—makes a perfect training environment for Houston, who sees every person as an athlete, no matter their skill level. “Everyone that comes in, I care to make a connection with them because I want people to believe in themselves and reach heights that they never thought they could,” Houston says. “At Orangetheory, I don’t know how many times people have come to me and said, ‘I never thought I’d run a mile that fast,’ or ‘I never thought I’d lift that much weight.’ It’s their goals, but I take it as my goals as well. It’s very uplifting.” Houston’s No. 1 rule for working out is “Just have fun.” “If you have fun, all at once you’re like, I burned that many calories? The more you have fun, that’s where you reach the potential you never thought you could achieve.”
