Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia
voted best charity/nonprofit in Morgantown in 2021

It’s been a banner year for this year’s Best Charity/Nonprofit: Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia. Although COVID-19 made the process more difficult, the organization reports more than 180 adoptions in the past nine months and is on track to have its best 12 months on record. While humans might have been under stay-at-home orders, says shelter coordinator Katie Short, unneutered cats and dogs still went about Mother Nature’s business, and many veterinarian offices also paused spay and neuter surgeries briefly. These factors together meant that a host of kittens and puppies needed homes as soon as the shelter began operating again. Placement and adoption efforts are supported by Short and by robust volunteer support. Make an appointment today to find your next “furever” friend—or visit the thrift shop the organization runs in the Mountaineer Mall to fund the shelter operation.
