Get original works from future-famous printmakers at First Friday, October 2, 2026.
If you’ve ever wished we’d see more of the art created at WVU displayed around town, you have a chance at the October 2 First Friday for the Arts to encourage some student printmakers—and choose your favorite design to be hand-printed on a T-shirt, too.
Undergraduate and graduate printmaking majors from the WVU Print Club will show their work at the Art Lab on Willey Street from 6 to 9 p.m.
“Twenty to 30 prints will be framed and on display—a collection of work from last year’s classes,” says the club’s faculty advisor, WVU art professor Joseph Lupo. And the students will be selling unframed prints, stickers, and more. “That will be a combination of assignment work and personal work. Students are always making work beyond assignments, so there will be a range of things for sale at many different price points.”
And in the First Friday spirit of art happening before your eyes, students will live-print T-shirts: buyer’s choice of six to nine original designs.“People can let us know what design and what T-shirt size they want, and we will print them through our movable press right there on the spot,” Lupo says. “Live T-shirt printing is always fun! People get a kick out of seeing their T-shirts printed right then and there.”
For some students, Lupo says, an exhibition like this is the first time they get to show their work to the public—so it’s a great chance for art lovers to support student creativity. It’s also a fundraiser aimed at sending students to the 2026 Mid America Print Council Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. “This funding will help pay for their airfare costs, which have been getting more and more expensive,” Lupo says. “So it’s going to a good cause.”
