Assisted stretching yields all the benefits—with half the work.
There are lots of reasons why someone might want to improve their mobility: A construction worker seeking to ease the strains of manual labor. A student athlete building a healthy foundation for their career. A grandparent aiming to keep up during playground excursions. No matter what your fitness and flexibility goals may be, the skilled practitioners at Stretch Zone will help you reach them.
The assisted-stretching company has been around since 2004, but Morgantown’s location, located at 400 Fort Pierpont Drive, Suite 1009, is brand new. It opened earlier this year, and lead practitioner Jess Clough says they’ve since seen clients from all walks of life. Most are referred by a chiropractor, physical therapist, or massage therapist, but anyone can book its services, no referral needed.
It’s not like your typical fitness center or yoga class—so how does it work?
Regional Manager Carrie Wickline compares it to “yoga on a table.” During the 30-minute stretch session, you’ll simply lie down on the stretch table and relax while the practitioner stretches your muscles for you. They manipulate isolated muscles, achieving a quicker, more satisfying stretch compared to what can be reached independently with engaged muscles.
Practitioners communicate what each stretch should feel like and stay attentive to your limits—none of the stretches should hurt. And if you have any limitations, every stretch can be expertly adapted to your needs, because practitioners typically have backgrounds in fields like physical therapy and exercise physiology—Clough has a background as a personal trainer and studied sport and exercise psychology—in addition to a 40-hour training program certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork. It’s safe to say you’re in good hands.
Whereas a typical fitness class can leave you sweating and out of breath, you’ll leave Stretch Zone feeling light and limber. After regular stretch sessions—Clough says one 30-minute session a week is the norm, but it’s all about your unique needs—you’ll gradually see an expanded range of motion.
“Every time you come in, we want you to leave feeling better,” says Wickline.
What’s the best part? Your first session is free—book it now, and see if Stretch Zone is the right fit for your fitness goals.
