It’s never been easier or more luxurious to be an ice skater in Morgantown.
Hockey, figure skating, lessons, birthday parties—in the past, Morgantown’s one ice rink has been scheduled dawn ’til dark. The public skating hours for casual skaters were limited, and the sessions were usually jam-packed. But with recent upgrades to the BOPARC Ice Arena and the addition of Hope Gas Ice Pavilion at Mylan Park, we’ve got options.
So get ready to skate your socks off this winter.
For information on lessons, curling, figure skating, pick-up hockey, and other ice-based activities, visit the arenas’ websites—we’re focusing on public skating sessions.
BOPARC Ice Arena
The rink recently underwent $3.15 million of renovations. So if you haven’t been to the rink in a couple of years, forget whatever you’re envisioning, because it’s had a serious glow-up.
There’s all the boring but still very important stuff, like upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, plus a new building exterior and roof. The more glamorous updates include new or renovated changing rooms, dasher boards, warming rooms, and more.
The BOPARC Ice Arena is open for public sessions at the following times:
Wednesday: Noon–2:30 pm, 7:15–9:15 p.m.
Friday: Noon–2 p.m., 7–9 p.m.
Saturday: 1–3 p.m., 7–9 p.m.
Sunday: 1–3 p.m.
Admission costs $6 for youth and seniors, while those of us between 18 and 54 pay $7, and skate rentals cost an additional $3. Or, on Wednesdays and Fridays at noon, you can pay $7 for entry and rental skates—what a steal!
Hope Gas Ice Pavilion at Mylan Park
The ice pavilion is open for public skating Saturdays and Sundays at the following times:
Saturday: 2:30–4:30 p.m.
Sunday: 2:30–4:30 p.m., 4:45–6:30 p.m.
Plus, special Friday night public skating sessions on October 30 and November 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and December 11 and 18 from 7 to 9 p.m., as well as sessions on days where local schools are closed, like November 3 and 11 from noon to 2:30 p.m.
Got your own pair of skates? Pay $8.50. Need a rental pair? Pay $10.50.
It’s gonna be spring before you know it, so instead of saying to your friends, “We should totally go ice skating this year!” for months, send this to the group chat, compare calendars, and pick a day, or two, or three—you’re welcome.
