It’s Blue and Gold Mine Time

The United Way’s popular event is returning to Milan Puskar Stadium this year.

There’s still time to clean out your closets and donate the goods you find to the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties for its annual Blue and Gold Mine Sale—one of the organization’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Drop off donations beginning May 2 at one of several collection shipping containers set up around town. Learn exactly where and what they’ll accept here.

The organization is also in need of volunteers for the next two weeks leading up to the sale to unpack, sift, sort, and price items. Sign up for that here

“This is a huge fundraiser for the WVU United Way campaign, but it’s also a wonderful recycling event for the community. About 20 to 25 tons of items are kept out of the landfill each year because of this sale, and we’ve raised over $200,000 in the 17 years we’ve held the event,” says Amanda Posey, UWMPC Director of Marketing and Communications. “We have a great relationship with the WVU Office of Sustainability—they help us organize the sale every year—and, through this partnership, we’ve created an event that places an emphasis on recycling as well as helping to raise funds for those most in need in our community.”

Be sure to mark May 14 on your calendar and head to the stadium early, because the good stuff goes quick. For a $5 entry fee, you can get in with other early birds at 7 a.m.—two hours before the sale officially opens to the public. Admission after 9 a.m. is free. New this year is a 50% off sale Saturday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. Posey says she hopes the after-hours sale will attract shoppers who haven’t attended before.
