It’s that time of year again—when Monday requires the puffiest of puffer coats, Friday has you eyeing the air conditioning, and summer camp registration is the furthest thing from your mind.
School will be out before you know it, so read up on some of Morgantown’s best ways to keep your kiddo entertained this summer.
Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation
Grades 1–8
June–August
If your kiddo has a knack for art, nature, science, sports, swimming, or music, the Morgantown Board of Parks and Recreation has a summer day camp they’re sure to love. Campers can spend their mornings learning from some of Morgantown’s most talented artists or tapping their way through steel drum lessons before rounding out their days with time at the new Marilla Pool.
Champion Training Academy
Ages 5–11
June–August
Is recess your child’s favorite class? Champion Training Academy’s Champion Events Summer Day Camp is the place for them. Campers stretch their physical and social muscles during each week’s themed games, crafts, and introductory tumbling skills. This year’s themes include Diggin’ Dinos, Under the Sea, Space is the Place, and Disney.
Kidematics
Ages 5–12
June–August
At Kidematics, campers keep moving, learning, and making friends. Through structured games designed to achieve a healthy number of moderate to vigorous physical activity minutes, children will get excited about fitness—and practice motivation, responsibility, and teamwork while they’re at it.
Suncrest Childcare and Early Learning Center
Grades 1–6
June–August
For a summer packed with adventure, Suncrest Childcare and Early Learning Center’s Kidz Rock Summer Camp has it all. Children enjoy a variety of field trips, pool days, and hands-on activities coordinated by teachers and community visitors. In previous years, campers have made excursions to Big Bear Lake Camplands and Mylan Park Aquatic Center and learned from special guests like Carnegie Science Center staff and WVU athletes.
Monongalia Arts Center
Ages 7–13
June–July
If your child is notorious for doodling in the margins of their homework, the MAC’s Art Camps will provide a place for that creativity to blossom. Last year, campers explored collaging, theatre, art history, printmaking, and more. Each camp will exercise students’ artistic muscles before a grand finale showcase to celebrate the hard work of Morgantown’s junior artists.
Morgantown Learning Academy
Ages 5–11
June–August
From Building Bridges and Zoo Week to Life’s A Garden and Camp Cryptid, themes of Morgantown Learning Academy’s Summer Camp are sure to delight any child. During a week about gardening, campers may create an herb garden, research types of gardens, or learn about herbal remedies. But regardless of theme, lessons are founded in fitness, music, art, and social connection.
Mountain Stewardship and Outdoor Leadership
Grades 2–12
June–August
If you’ve got yourself a Survivor contestant in the making, Mountain Stewardship and Outdoor Leadership School’s Summer Camps have you covered. During half-day, full-day, and sleepaway camps, your kiddo can practice navigation, hammock camping, woodworking, camp cooking, drums and sword dancing, and other creative and outdoor skills.
Mylan Park
Ages 4+
June–August
At Mylan Park’s Summer Camps, your child will stay active with swimming, outdoor fun, and team games while exercising their creativity through art, music, and hands-on STEM activities. Special guests and weekly themes will keep campers looking forward to morning drop-off. At pick-up, prepare to hear all about your kiddo’s new knack for tie-dye, steel drums, obstacle courses, baseball, and more.
PopShop
Ages 8–18
June–July
If you’ve got a miniature musician on your hands, PopShop’s Summer Camps offer a variety of ways to explore their passions in a supportive space. Song-writing, percussion techniques, audio engineering, and video production are just a few skills to be covered during this summer’s camp lineup.
The SOURCE Foundation
Age 5–5th grade
June–August
The SOURCE Summer Camp began in 2019 to support working parents in Monongalia County and provide children with a place for summer fun. A typical week at camp includes exercise, learning, field trips, special guests, pool time, and snacks—what more could a kid want?
The Shack Neighborhood House
Grades K–12
June–August
After nearly 100 years supporting Morgantown’s families, The Shack knows how to keep kids learning, socializing, and having fun. Reading, math, art, and science programs will keep campers on the path of self-confidence and bridge the gap of academic growth during the summer months.
The WOW! Factory
Ages 6+
June–August
Everyone knows a summer well-spent has to get a little messy. At The WOW! Factory’s summer camps, children will get hands-on practice with clay, pottery painting, glass fusing, and more to create works of art. Each camp features a muse for that group’s art-making, ranging from Taylor Swift to sports to video games to pets—something to inspire every junior artist.
