Lunchtime is too short to waste on a bad sandwich.

WV Living magazine’s Best Town for Foodies in 2018 was Morgantown, and the eating is just as good in 2019. Here are five of the best sandwiches you can find in Morgantown, and we challenge you to try them all this summer. Be prepared for a mouthwatering adventure.

For the vegetarian—or veggie lover—Terra Cafe offers its Black Bean Burger. It’s a scratch-made black bean burger that includes freshly cooked beans, onions, peppers, crimini mushrooms, and a house spice blend. It’s completed with lettuce, tomato, and avocado, drizzled with hot sauce, and smeared with a cilantro-lime crème fraiche.

To get your Italian fix, run, don’t walk, to Farmhouse Cafe to try its Caprese Panini. Ciabatta from Pittsburgh’s BreadWorks is layered with tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and a balsamic glaze from Pennsylvania Macaroni Company. What sets the sandwich apart, though, is Chef Mark Shipley’s house-made basil pesto.

Do you prefer some spice in your life? Look no further than the Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich at Clutch Wing Shop. Don’t let the simplicity fool you—spicy fried chicken, lettuce, and pickles with house sweet chili mayo on a seared, garlic-parmesan-butter-slathered Kaiser roll is pure perfection.

If all the toppings are what you’re looking for, head to Dirty Bird and try The Vera Cruz. The sandwich is 9 ounces of fresh, deep-fried, pepper jack–smothered chicken on a fresh deli roll with a heaping of shredded lettuce, red onion, tomato, avocado, and bacon. The sandwich is crowned with jalapeños and a zesty cilantro lime mayo.

Lastly, for a meaty and hearty sandwich, try the Kansas City Royal at Woodburn Shanks (featured photo above). Meat is king on this sandwich. Sliced brisket, onion rings, melted provolone, and sauce unite to create the perfect combination of flavors.
