A balanced diet is an ice cream in each hand.
Here are five of our favorite places to get soft serve ice cream in and around Morgantown this summer. If soft serve isn’t your jam, there’s hand-dipped, sundaes, milkshakes, flurries—follow your heart and you’ll find the ice cream treats.
You don’t have to daydream about ice cream at this family-owned and locally run ice cream shop. Dari Delite on State Route 7 just past Brookhaven (15 minutes) offers delightful ice cream cones in classic flavors of vanilla, chocolate, and twist—and don’t forget the sprinkles.
Since 1987, Dairy Creme Corner (20m) has been known for its leaning-tower-of-Pisa-esque cones. This Fairmont creamery brags “biggest cones in town.” If you’re in the mood for something particularly decadent, try the funnel cake sundae.
You can’t buy us love, but you can buy us Toni’s Ice Cream (45m). This Clarksburg restaurant serves vanilla, chocolate, and a locally famous black raspberry, as well as a fat-free and lactose-free pineapple-flavored soft serve. Locals will tell you to have the also-renowned fish sandwich before dessert.
Gibby’s Ice Cream and Grill (Shinnston, 45m) makes its waffle cones from scratch. Get a homemade cone with your favorite flavor of soft serve. But know we also have our eye on the raspberry churro delight.
Outings to Frostburg Freeze (Frostburg, Maryland, 1h) are what summer ice cream trips should be like. For a nostalgic feel, sit under the awning after placing your order at the window. Get your cone dipped for extra fun.
Enjoy your ice cream before it melts, and know that it’s always ice cream o’clock somewhere.
